Homestead Technologies is the owner and operator of a paid web hosting service based in Menlo Park, California. It has existed in various forms since launching in 1998 as a free service. Since then, it has expanded to include WYSIWIG site building tools and e-commerce services.[1]
Homestead Technologies was also home to Photosite, a web hosting service tailored to amateur digital photography. In March 2005, Photosite was sold to United Online.[2]
Homestead's CEO, Justin Kitch, maintains a blog. It was the source of controversy [3] when Mr. Kitch stated that customers were its third highest priority.[4]
On November 26, 2007, it was announced that Homestead would be purchased by Intuit in a cash transaction valued at roughly $170 million.[5]
